Music Mondays: Bon Iver + S. Carey

Guys, I've been ridiculously busy lately. Therefore, I have no time for blog posts. Sad sad sad. But, before I go to bed I wanted to share with you one of my favorite videos. I love me some Bon Iver (like most of the world these days) and I love S. Carey too. This is a studio recording that they did together and yes, it's over 24 minutes long. 24 minutes of sheer brilliance. I like to watch this video right before I go to sleep. Especially on nights like these when I just didn't have a very great day. So, I hope this video makes your day better just like it is making mine.

No words.
Goodnight!

Music Mondays: The Head And The Heart

So, wanna hear my favorite song right now? Okay.....I have like a couple favorite songs right now (and always), but this one is definitely top three. It's not new or anything, but I still get the chills every time I listen to it. And I love belting it in the car (alone preferably because I'm not that great of a singer...). So, now I want to share it with you! This is also one of my favorite videos of all time. I really don't know why. Probably because it's one of the only live ones that I really like and I love the passion and the stomping in the dirt. Makes me want to be in a band and play barefoot. Anyways, enough rambling. Here's The Head And The Heart playing "Rivers and Roads"....

And hopefully, I get to see them in September because they're coming to Cains!!! Eeek!
Happy Monday, folks!

This Week's List

So, I noticed last week that I really got into a rut of doing my routine and nothing different. I don't know about you, but that always puts me in a funk. I can't do the same things over and over again with no sense of newness. So, this I have made a list for myself and this week of things that I will get done. They are very random things, but still important to me and my sanity. And it's not like I think you really care all that much about my to do list. It's just that blogging about it makes me hold myself accountable for it for some reason. You guys are like my virtual accountability partners. What do you think about that?
So here's my list:

1. Finish "In Defense of Food"
2. Art journal at least twice
3. Memorize verses 12-18 of James chapter 1
4. Get Amy's present for her bachelorette party
5. Get a lot of my homework done
6. Buy that dress and shirt at Target that I liked
7. Do yoga twice instead of once
8. Have my quiet time everyday (I was slacking last week...)
9. Hang out with Hilary because she leaves soon
10. Thrift? Gardners? Hobby Lobby?

There it is, folks! Now keep me to it!

The Power of Being Alone

I remember growing up always thinking that I was an extrovert because I loved people with an extraordinary passion and I had lots of friends who I liked to be with. But as I got older, I realized that, though those things were still true, it didn't necessarily mean I was an extrovert. My whole life I have needed to be alone from time to time. I think everyone does. One day, I learned that the difference between an extrovert and an introvert isn't whether or not they like to be with people, it's where they get their energy from. Some people get their energy from other people. Those people are extroverts. And others get their energy from within themselves. Those people are introverts. I am one of those people.

But with all of that said, I have realized that I don't really ever go out to public places alone. No, I'm not one of those girls who has to go in pairs to the bathroom, and I don't feel weird stopping at Target by myself after work, but I do like to be in public places with others. I don't go out to eat by myself. I would never go to a concert by myself. If I can get a friend to join me when I go out, then that's what I do. I guess I thought everyone was like that. But a few months ago, while talking to a friend at school, I realized that it's normal for people to go out to eat by themselves and that sort of thing. That friend told me that I should try it sometime, just to see what it's like and so that I can overcome that fear. I thought she was crazy.

But these past few weeks I have been learning and experiencing a whole new side to being alone. Two weeks ago, my best friend and I were going to start a yoga class together. When the day rolled around, she wasn't feeling well and decided yoga wouldn't be a good idea that day. I was already ready to go, so *gasp* I went by myself. And it was one of the most rewarding things I've done. Yes, I felt awkward and like everyone was staring at me, but I got over it. And when I was leaving, I felt so good! The next week, my friend was out of town so I went alone AGAIN! Crazy, I know. Also, two Sundays ago I was going to try out a new church and meet a friend there. That morning she told me that she couldn't meet with me because she had to help someone at the church. I could have just stayed home. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but I decided to go anyway. It was a little weird picking a seat and sitting between two total strangers, but it was really amazing in the end. I got to worship on my own and really focus on God with no distractions. I've also been to the mall by myself recently which I think was a first.

What I'm telling you may sound normal, but it's really a big deal for me. I don't do these kinds of things. And though I still haven't gone out to eat by myself, I feel like I have overcome a part of myself. I got a lot out of those things. And I'm realizing more and more that some of my favorite times are when I'm in my room, by myself, listening to my favorite music, and art journaling of reading. It does something for the soul.

So, I don't know if you empathize with this post, but I do want to challenge you, no matter what kind of person you are, to step out of your comfort zone and do something that you would probably never do willingly. It really does stretch you as a person. I promise.

Also, I really do love people. A whole lot and I have to spend time with the people I love to feel like the world is right. But, I think quality time alone is important too.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. If you read this whole post, props to you. Because I probably wouldn't have.

Go challenge yourself!

Music Mondays: The Lumineers

Finding new music is one of the greatest things in life. There's something about finding a new song that has that sound or that lyric that just gets you. You know what I'm talking about right? Of course you do. Well, as of approximately midnight last night, I found a new band that has both of those things and I was so excited to share them with you! So, without further ado, here is "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers...

And a very happy Monday to you.

The Past Seven Days

This past week has been a wild one. Both good and bad. And I would like to share some bits and pieces from it with you guys....

  1. I started my summer Physical Science class on Tuesday. It's twice a week for five hours.....that really started off my week on a bad note.
  2. I went shopping at Forever 21 after work one day. Can you tell what my summer colors are going to be? :)
  3. Ate some amazing artisan pizza at Groove Bakery and Pizza Shop.
  4. That's Ethan's face that Groove drew on our box. :)
  5. Went to First Friday in Shawnee, which is basically a gathering of local artists. Super fun.
  6. Creeped on this adorable couple. (Don't worry. We're friends.)
  7. Went to Sips Kafe, my favorite coffee shop, a lot and it was wonderful.
  8. Spent some time with two of my roommates, Shannon and Taylor.
  9. Went to two of my favorite people's wedding shower.
  10. Me and my boy with one of my favorite couple's of all time.
  11. And most importantly, I spent the whole weekend with Ethan after being apart for a month. It was truly amazing.
Other happenings this week that are not pictured:
  1. Started a yoga class and I am extremely sore.
  2. Got mistaken as a twin more times than I can count. And with two different girls! One is actually my younger sister, Adison, and the other is my co-worker, Rhiannon. Ha!
  3. Ran into my bed and got a wicked bruise. Lots of people stared at me with concerned looks on their faces.
  4. Found my new favorite nail polish: Essie's Meet Me At Sunset.
  5. Got told by two different people that I look like I'm from the north. And one of those people told me that I look like I should be from Portland. :)
It was a pretty eventful week, but it ended so well. My life is pretty great. And I'm looking forward to another eventful week starting tomorrow!

It's Quiet Around Here....

Hey guys! I'm so sorry that I haven't posted in almost a week! I was doing so well about keeping current with posts and what not. But this last week was....something. Just a lot. A lot of things have happened this past week, and in a way I'm glad that it's over. Especially because I'm now in Shawnee with my boy and some of my other favorite people and places. I'll be posting about my week soon, but for now, I'm going to enjoy the sweet bliss that is this weekend. I hope all is well with you guys and I hope you've missed The Aviary. :)
Happy happy weekend!

Music Mondays: The Black Keys + Johnny Depp

I literally just watched this video five minutes ago and almost died. My favorite actor and one of my favorite bands TOGETHER! And it's so good. Johnny used to be in a band when he was a teenager, but it's so awesome to see that he can still play! I love it. Anyways, without further ado....The Black Keys and Johnny Depp playing "Gold On The Ceiling" at the MTV Movie Awards!

Amazing, right?

UO Wishlist

I love Urban Outfitters. And it's a very unhealthy love because we don't have one in Oklahoma, so I just drool over their website and end up buying nothing. It's a problem. But I still love it! So, I thought I'd share my current UO Wishlist with you guys!

This beautiful duvet which I will ACTUALLY be buying this summer for my new house. :)
I've wanted an Instax Mini Camera for a while, but they're just too darn expensive! Maybe someday. I really love this one.
This adorable fox pillow! I love foxes.
These white branch hooks.
I've been wanting a world map for a long time and I love this one with all of the different patterns.
I love this wander lust embroidery wall art.
I really love this rug.
This Shakespeare quote mug!
I'm in love with this hand painted lantern!
And most of all, this beautiful Crosley turntable. I'm hoping to get this for Christmas. (I know I know. That's a long time from now, but I can dream.)

That's my Urban Outfitters Wishlist! I don't have to have these things. They're just things that I like a lot. Maybe someday I can buy a few.

Happy beautiful Sunday!
